One of two new slider handsets in the 'Expression' range, Nokia has announced the 5200 budget music phone from the Open Studio event in New York today. With a bright color scheme, the Nokia 5200 is sure to appeal to the fun-loving youth market. While specifications for the Nokia 5200 aren't that high-end, it does provide for a compact device for people on the go. On the music front, Nokia has included support for MP3, WMA, M4A, AAC, AAC+, and eAAC+ format files, and thrown in a microSD memory card slot for storing up to 2GB of audio. While the 5200 only provides a 2.5mm headphone port, Nokia has kindly included a 3.5mm adapter and a set of headphones in the box. Limited imaging is available through a VGA resolution camera that can also record video at QCIF resolution. Connectivity wise, the tri-band (GSM 900/1800/1900MHz) Nokia 5200 supports USB, Infrared, and Bluetooth, as well as EDGE high-speed data.

Review

The Nokia 5200 mobile phone comes with easy to use fun features which will keep the user entertained when they are on the move. The handset comes in two coloured designs & the selectable coloured sections highlight the phones easy access keys & the colourful screen. The choice of coloured sections are bright blue which brings a fresh look to the Nokia 5200 or a striking red coloured section which brings a streetwise feel to the handset. The Nokia 5200 is a style conscious mobile phone which comes with a spring assisted slide opening mechanism which is a pleasure to use. The user will find the phone easy to open in one hand & easy to operate all the controls in one hand. The high colour screen can be viewed when the phone is in the slide closed or slide open position & provides the user with a 262k colour TFT display. The main keypad can be accessed when the phone is in the open position & the keys are well spaced out for ease of use. The phone has easy access keys situated externally so the user can accept calls, access the camera feature & access the FM radio when the phone is in the closed position. The Nokia 5200 looks similar in handset design to the Nokia 5300 XpressMusic mobile phone but the built in features are unique to each handset.
