It's always good to remember that there are other things in life aside from a new portable computer. To that end, Compaq has designed its Presario V5005US 15.4" Notebook PC to not only handle all the most common mobile tasks, but to do so without breaking the bank. The unit is not quite a power user's dream come true, featuring a cost-effective yet battery efficient AMD Sempron CPU and so-so 3D graphics. Yet the decidedly economical Presario V5005US isn't entry-level in every aspect, offering such perks as high-speed wireless connectivity, double-layer DVD support, and a DVD-friendly widescreen display. Ultimately, if you're looking for a top-notch business machine or a gaming and/or entertainment powerhouse, this is not your notebook. But if you need an affordable unit for on-the-road computing essentials such as sales and customer tracking, finances, word processing, and email and Internet access, you've come to the right place.

Other key amenities include a pair of USB 2.0 ports for plug and play devices such as external drives and digital cameras, an S-Video TV-out, and an ExpressCard/54 slot (the new and improved PC Card standard). The system does not include an IEEE 1394 FireWire port (commonly used for quick data uploads from digital camcorders), a card reader, Bluetooth or infrared technology, or composite audio/video ports.

Operating System and Software:
Compaq will pre-install copies of Microsoft's Windows XP Home Edition operating system, Microsoft's Works productivity package, Microsoft's Money financial suite, an assortment of trial edition applications, and several multimedia and communication utilities.

Review

The laptop is beautiful and sleek, with a very comfortable keyboard. It boots rapidly and the resolution is excellent. Couldn't be happier
